Hakan Kocabaş, Erdal Eke
ABSTRACT
Objective: The supply of blood, which is an indispensable substance for the continuity of the vital functions of patients in need of service and blood products in health institutions, and the continuity of this supply are important. In procuring blood and blood products, it is necessary to direct individuals who have not donated blood before to donate blood, as well as to ensure that existing blood donors continue to donate blood. There are a limited number of studies in the literature on the reasons of lost blood donors to stop donating blood. For this reason, the purpose of the study is to examine the reasons why regular blood donors who are lost to stop donating blood.

Material and Method: The study is a descriptive research. The population of the research consists of individuals who have donated blood regularly in Isparta Red Crescent Blood Donation Center and have not donated blood after a certain date. A questionnaire form questioning the reasons and socio-demographic characteristics of the participants to stop donating

blood was used as a data collection tool. In this study, 327 people were reached by using purposive sampling method.

Results: As a result of the study, it was observed that the inconsistency between the working hours of the donors and the working hours of the Red Crescent (3.9±1.4) and the donors 'thought that their own blood groups were too high (3.7±1.4) were effective in the participants' cessation of donating blood. In addition, it has been found that working hours and disease dimensions show a statistically significant difference according to age and occupational variables.

Conclusion: In this study, it was found that the most important reason for the participants to stop making blood donations was the coincidence of working hours of the Red Crescent and the working hours of the participants. In addition, it was found that working hours and disease dimensions showed a statistically significant difference according to age and occupational variables. It is thought that increasing the measures to be taken for the loss of lapsed blood donors with the study may contribute to meeting the blood needs of the country.
